Approach Successful People with Ease!

Are you one of the many people who feel a degree of intimidation in approaching successful people? This could include anyone… a superior at work, management of an establishment, affluent people with a high level of influence, etc.

Personally I’m not afraid to approach these people, because of a little outlook that I taught myself. Works great for me! Allow me to explain in the video below:

In addition to treating successful people as… people, you can’t allow yourself to worry about making the other person ‘like’ you. We all have a lot to learn from each other, so allow your confidence to shine through in a personable manner. Talk about what the person would find useful and fascinating, don’t just throw a bunch of trigger words at them (that’s annoying.)

It’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to risk losing what could be a valuable relationship. Even so, what really matters is making an impression. That’s what plants the seed. Even if you flub here and there, you can redeem yourself as you follow-up, because the connection has been made, and the seed has been planted.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It’s like my email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, cell & AIM have all lit up like Christmas tree since 12am. :-)

I’m happy to say that I have accomplished every goal that I wanted to achieve by the time I was 30 -and even got a few surprises too! I couldn’t have done it without my friends & family.

So, thank you again to everyone- near & far -that has stuck by me & lent their support these last few decades.

My quote of the day is from the marvelous Marilyn Monroe:

When I was a kid I forgot to return a library book on time and was embarrassed about paying the fines so I never went back to my local library again. It’s silly since the library fine was only a few dollars but I was a kid & didn’t have money so it was a big deal to me at that time to make an honest mistake.

So, I hope kids today appreciate & take advantage of this program sponsored by McGraw Hill to waive all prior fines for patrons under the age of 17.

Patrons through the age of 17 will not be charged late penalties when returning overdue books. The program is designed to encourage children and teens to return to their libraries and check out new materials without the fear of having to pay large, longstanding fines. With the new school year underway, giving students access to their public library is more important than ever.

I wonder how the word is getting out to kids so that they know about this?

Achievers International provides a program for students to learn the process for globally starting a company from vision to exit. Pretty impressive - I wish there was a program like this when I was a kid.

Students from around the world will get a chance to collaborate with each other and even share their company profiles and elevator pitches during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Coordinated by Achievers International, student groups are making elevator pitch videos about their proposed companies or products. They will also touch upon how they came up with their product ideas and how they intend to manage the company.

Achievers International is an internet-based enterprise project for students that brings business to life for young people. It enables students to understand international business through an authentic trading relationship with a partner school overseas. A group of students and their teacher form a student company, and import and export goods with their overseas partner school, encouraging them to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. More than 30,000 students from five continents have already participated in the program, which continues to grow. In order to participate in Achievers International, you must work at an educational institution with students and fill in the short application form.

Could NYC Get Katrina-ed in a Warmer, Wetter Future?

This article was published in April 2010 but it’s starting to feel more relevant considering NYC is experiencing an earthquake & a hurricane consecutively in just one week.

Oh yeah, and a quick summary of the catastrophe pros/cons predicted in the Discover Magazine article are below:

Manhattan has served Hollywood as a stage for alien attacks, giant gorilla invasions, and even the dire effects of global warming (see: The Day After Tomorrow). But scientists worry that unlike building-scaling apes, large storm waves crashing into the city may indeed become a reality in the near future. A recent study (pdf) estimated that at the current rate of global warming, Manhattan will face a sea level rise of 2 feet or more by 2080.

Serendip offers the smartest music integration to Twitter that I’ve seen. While other services make it easy to share music with my followers, they don’t make it easy to keep up with what my friends have been listening to. Enter Serendip.

Signing up for a free account will allow you to easily share music, powered by YouTube, with your friends. China and Europe Both Have Plans To Prevent Deadly Asteroid Apophis from Hitting Earth in 2029 (or 2036)

Apophis is a 46 million tonne asteroid that will pass within a hair’s breath of Earth in 2029. However, Apophis’s trajectory is likely to take it through a region of space near Earth known as a keyhole that will ensure the asteroid returns in 2036.

Nobody knows how close Apophis will come on that pass. But if there’s a chance of a collision, we’ll have only 7 years to work out how to avoid catastrophe.
Researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing say their preference is to use a solar sail to place a small spacecraft into a retrograde orbit and on collision course with Apophis. The retrograde orbit will give it an impact velocity of 90km/s which, if they do this well enough in advance, should lead to a collision large enough to do the trick.
In 2002, the European Space Agency began a program called Don Quijote to find out how best to perform such a deflection.

Don Quijote involves sending two spacecraft to a near Earth asteroid; one to smash into it and the other to watch while in orbit above the impact crater. The goal is to change the asteroid’s semimajor axis by more than 100 metres and to measure the change with an accuracy greater than 1 per cent.

The feed, as I found through my Google-sleuthing, was made by TakkTakk the genius firm behind all of Iceland’s social efforts. Looking at their stuff gives me total social envy – @HispterIceland is only the latest evolution to their incredibly well organized, consistent and open-to-change integrated social media campaign called “Iceland Wants to Be Your Friend,” where the idea is the country itself is just discovering the “inter-nets,” and how to communicate with humans. Its’ endearing, funny and engaging.
